How to design a V-belt

Oct 10, 2023

(1) The V-belt is usually an endless ring belt, in order to facilitate installation, the shaft spacing and preload should be adjusted. For transmissions without tensioners, the bearing position of one of the shafts should be able to move along the belt length.
(2) The transmission structure should be convenient for the installation and replacement of the V-belt.
(3) Horizontal or near-horizontal belt transmission, the tight edge of the belt should be at the bottom and the loose edge at the top, which can increase the wrapping angle of the small pulley.
(4) When multiple V-belts are driven, in order to avoid uneven load distribution of each V-belt, the length of the V-belts on the same pulley should be matched. The replacement must be replaced at the same time as all belts.
(5) The use of tension wheel transmission will increase the number of bending times of the belt and shorten the life of the belt.
(6) In the transmission device, the flatness of the center plane of the wheel groove corresponding to the two pulleys should be less than 0.002a (a - shaft spacing), and the parallelism of the axis of the pulley should be less than 0.006a.
(7) Ordinary V-belts and narrow V-belts shall not be mixed in the same transmission device.

Model selection of V belt: according to the design power p of the belt drive and the speed of the small belt pulley n according to the initial selection of the belt type, whether the selected belt type meets the standard, it is necessary to consider the space position requirements of the transmission and the number of belts before it can be finally determined.
